It was a day of triple impact yesterday as the Women’s Wing of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos State Chapter, led by Sanitarian Francisca, held three impactful programmes in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area.
The programmes, anchored on the theme “Healthy Children, Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities,” showcased the strength, motherly care and professionalism of EHOAN women.
1. DIPHTHERIA PREVENTION & HANDWASHING OUTREACH
The dynamic women of EHOAN took the message of diphtheria prevention, personal hygiene and proper handwashing to school pupils, while providing handwashing tools to support a safer and healthier school environment.
Officers educated the children on early signs of diphtheria, mode of transmission, importance of immunization, and how handwashing with soap can save lives. The presentation of handwashing facilities was the highpoint, received with joy by school management and pupils.
Motto: Environmental Health in Action: Protecting Lives, Promoting Health.
2. SANITATION SENSITIZATION AT OSUNKEYE STREET SCHOOL
In continuation of the outreach, the Women’s Wing held a Sanitation Sensitization at Osunkeye School, Ifako-Ijaiye.
Pupils were sensitized on clean surroundings, proper waste disposal, personal hygiene, and healthy sanitation practices. The session empowered them to become sanitation ambassadors in their homes.
Healthy School, Clean Environment, Healthy Community.
3. MENTORSHIP SESSION: WHAT EVERY YOUNG EHO SHOULD KNOW
To cap the day, the Women’s Wing organized a powerful mentorship session at the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Multipurpose Hall under the topic “MENTORSHIP MATTERS: What Every Young EHO Should Know.”
The session featured esteemed guest speaker, Sanitarian Onikoyi Tawakalitu, who shared valuable insights, professional guidance, and practical wisdom with young Environmental Health Officers. It was an inspiring and soul-lifting moment for young officers as she spoke on professionalism, ethics, career growth, and the dignity of the Environmental Health profession.
Speaking at the event, San. Francisca emphasized that building the next generation of committed and knowledgeable EHOs is key to the future of the Association and public health in Lagos State.
