Dr. Cyril Babasope Akinyele, PhD, FWAPCEH, REHO, FIML, PRESIDENT, ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (LAGOS STATE CHAPTER)

Dr. Cyril Babasope Akinyele is a seasoned Environmental Health Scientist, Public Health Practitioner, and Academic with over 25 years of professional, teaching, and research experience in environmental health, waste management, occupational safety, food hygiene, and public health policy.

He holds a PhD in Environmental Health Science (2019) alongside advanced degrees in Environmental Management, with formal academic training from Kwara State University, Malete (Kwara State, Nigeria); Lead City University, Ibadan (Oyo State, Nigeria); Houdegbe North American University, Benin Republic; and Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu (Ogun State, Nigeria).

Dr. Akinyele is a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Environmental Health (FWAPCEH), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (FIML), and a Registered Environmental Health Officer (REHO). He is also a traditional titleholder, the Aro of Ibogun Owu Kingdom, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Currently, he serves as Director of Environmental Health, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (2025 – date), and as President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter (2023 – date). He is also a Visiting Lecturer at multiple universities, including Lead City University, Ajayi Crowther University, Kwara State University, and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where he has supervised over 120 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

Research & Publications

Dr. Akinyele has authored numerous scholarly works, including journal articles on household sanitation, waste reduction practices, and environmental health in urban Nigeria, as well as contributions to academic textbooks and conference proceedings. His PhD thesis examined determinants of ill-health in Lagos residential neighborhoods.

Dr. Akinyele is a distinguished Environmental Health leader, educator, and policy influencer with a strong record of service in academia, government, and professional associations. His fellowships, chieftaincy title, and leadership roles position him as a key voice in advancing environmental and public health practice in Nigeria and West Africa.
